KEEPING TRACK (CHICAGO)
Photography & Bookbinding
Hand-bound Accordion Book —
Photographs taken with my phone while on the train in ChicagoThe trains in Chicago initially reminded me of home in a strange dichotomous way — It was as similar as it was dissimilar to the ones in Singapore. It ran on tracks both above and below ground and divided the city like fissures; they were loud and sometimes shook violently, their doors could be opened from the inside through an emergency pull-down lever that was often used in many non-emergencies. As the idea of home started to blur in my mind, the trains felt like a means of keeping track.

Photographs taken with my phone while I was on the trains in ChicagoThe trains in Chicago reminded me of the ones back home in a strange dichotomous way — they were both similar and dissimilar to the ones in Singapore. They ran above and below ground, dissecting the city like fissures; they were loud and occasionally shook violently; their doors could be opened from the inside at any time using an emergency pull-down lever — it was frequently used in non-emergencies. As the idea of home began to blur, grow, dissipate, and expand, the trains served as a way of keeping track.
