MAYFLY

Fashion & Fine Art Photography, Bookbinding

Mayflies are insects that only live for a day. Ephemeral creatures that frantically attempt to copulate as soon as they leave their cocoon, before their bodies run out of energy and die — an unfortunate side effect of not having a functional mouth or digestive system. The project’s name is a homage to our of daily curatorial practice of appearance through dress as we shed our second skin to begin anew the next day. ‘Mayfly’ can also be interpreted as a verb, expressing the desire to transcend.

This project is a celebration of self-expression through dress.

It was born from the gratitude I felt over the autonomy I had over my dressing. This work involved a collaboration between several friends and acquaintances. They would choose the setting and outfit that they felt comfortable in, and with the outfit I brought to each meeting, we engaged in an exchange of sorts —

An exchange of clothes, perspectives, and vulnerabilities as we placed ourselves in each other’s shoes.
