This is Mac. They've always known that they were different, just unaware of exactly how different. You see, Mac wasn't always human. They were of royal lineage, part of an ancient fairy race from times past.
Mac has been around for centuries, and during the day, is no larger than the average human hand. In olden times, they would reside in the handkerchiefs of women from the upper echelons of society, watching and judging humans and their games of power.
During the day, Mac hid in close proximity to human beings, feeling a particular fondness and curiosity for these fragile beings who seemed to wither away within a century. Mac was dichotomously disgusted with the greed and selfishness in human society but also touched by the courage and kindness that some people seemed to exhibit.
In the day, Mac could fit into your pocket, but under the beams of the moon, they would undergo an enchanting and astonishing metamorphosis.
As the sun sets, Mac is filled with the night, and under the light of the moon, they begin to grow. As big as a castle, they sit atop the clouds, watching the humans below.
Grief fills their heart as they see the discrimination and hatred play out beneath them. Mac just doesn't understand how the human heart can hold such unadulterated tenderness alongside ferocious malice.
'Only one way to find out,' They thought to themselves. Using their magic, they take human form, wiping their memory of what they were before. Deciding to live a life as human being, mortal for one century, they hope to investigate this perceived paradox of the human potential for kindness and evil.
